This is the first assignment for Gouache Techniques class. It was to design a children's menu cover for any restaurant, real or made-up. Putting aside whether there really is a restaurant out there with this name (and there probably is), I chose the latter. I think it turned out alright, my inner-child would definitely eat there.

Two images today. First up is a naval battle piece for Visual Development. The tentative title of this one is Operation Stingray. I am not sure if I'll stick with that. I want the name to sound authentic to World War II and that era; that it could be what an officer would name an operation at the time. I lose sleep over inconsequential stuff like this. Anyhow, first up:

Next up is my third assignment but second piece for the story I am doing in Background Painting. Still A Fistful of Dollars. Still the big city, prohibition-era setting:

Pending a few tweaks here and there, these are done and I am happy to move onto newer projects. Hopefully one of them will be set during the day.

Current Projects

This blog has been fixin' for an update so here we go! First off, for Vis Dev my Beaver Dam project. This project really has two pieces; one from the beaver's point of view and one from a downstream settler's point of view. I'll post the latter one when I get some time to bring it to a level of finish I am happy with. I am still tweaking the color so for now I'll post the tonal.

Next up, my concept piece (so far) for Matte Painting. Eventually nearly all of the elements in this scene will be replaced by photographic material. Hopefully that'll bring it to a much higher level of detail and believability.

Last but not least, the latest from Background Painting. In short, I am adapting A Fistful of Dollars in a 1920s prohibition-era city. This scene depicts the hideout of one of the dueling gangs in the city. Enjoy!

Sketches a la Carlsbad

Does the title of this post make sense? No matter, here are some sketches done over the weekend in Carlsbad with friends. You'll notice the most of them are asleep here. I would have more active poses but I haven't mastered boogie boarding/beer pong playing/general tomfoolery/etc. and sketching at the same time (yet). Enjoy!

This ones a bit overdue considering it was done last summer but I liked it enough to post. For Digital Illustration we had to create something organic in Illustrator using custom brushes.

Natural disasters aren't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of "organic"...
